Skincare Includes Caring For Your LIPS - Part 2 To Luscious Lips

Now that you're remembering the kissers in your daily skin care regimen - we can focus on specific products that can help you have a poutier pout.

HAVE FULLER LIPS: At Fit and Beautiful medical spa, we offer dermal fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm that will very quickly make your lips appear fuller.  One would typically need at least one full syringe in the upper lip, and sometimes more, and up to another syringe in the bottom lip to obtain an even appearance. Dermal fillers are usually around $500 per syringe and last three to six months. If you inject again before the effects of the dermal filler are gone, you can extend the effects for a longer duration.

A less invasive and less expensive way to plump the lips would be to use a lip enhancement product such as SkinMedica TNS Lip Plump System.  It's a two part process, that includes a 'lip renewal' formula topped by a glossy plumper. It works great when used in conjunction with SkinMedica TNS Line Refine, as it reduces the appearance of the vertical lines on the upper lip by filling and smoothing those wrinkles.

Dr. Oz commented that the Lip Plump System from SkinMedica was an "inexpensive alternative to plastic surgery".

Back To School Beauty

Back to school means the coming of FALL. As Summer comes to a close in the next few weeks, and Fall settles in, we will start seeing the signs of Autumn: new colors and trends, pumpkins and holiday preparations, cooler winds and of course, dryer skin.

As you start to bring Fall into the home, or as you're carving them up at Halloween - keep the pulp.  The pulp of a pumpkin has tons of vitamins A & C, as well as zinc - as well as alpha-hydroxy acids. These things are super for your skin, and will help exfoliate naturally, as well as act as antioxidants.

The Hills star Audrina Patrige swears by pumpkin power, saying, "it is so good for your skin because it is full of antioxidants and vitamins.”

To stay in the Fall spirit, try these fun do-it-yourself pumpkin skincare recipes.

PUMPKIN TREATS:

Pumpkin Facial
INGREDIENTS:

* 2 teaspoons (cooked or canned) pumpkin
* 1/2 teaspoon honey
* 1/4 teaspoon milk (or heavy cream, if your skin is super dry)

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Mix all ingredients together, and apply to a clean face with gentle circular motions, avoiding the area around your eyes.
2. Allow mask to remain on skin for 10 to 15 minutes (RELAX!), then rinse with warm water, pat dry, and apply your usual moisturizer.

Pumpkin Scrub
INGREDIENTS:

* 1/2 cup cooked or canned pumpkin, pureed
* 1/2 cup brown sugar
* 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Combine ingredients in a bowl - HOW EASY!
2. Scoop some of the mixture and apply to body, starting with your feet and working your way up, but avoiding your face. Scrub gently using circular motions.
3. Rinse with warm water and pat dry.

Carrollton Texas Laser Hair Removal - The Magical Machine

At Fit & Beautiful Medical Spa, we use the GentleMax Pro laser by Candela for our Carrollton laser hair removal treatments.

For us, it's an integrated aesthetic laser platform that offers lots of power and performance. But for our patients, it's the speed and comfort of the treatments and the reliable results that win the day.

The system, for us, is primarily used for laser hair removal and skin tightening, as well as treatment of pigmented and vascular lesions and photo rejuvenation.  It's suitable for all skin types.

What's more, is that our laser system is quite comfortable.  Many medical spas and skin care centers provide numbing or ice to help make laser hair removal more comfortable. This is not necessary with the GentleMax.  With each pulse of the laser, a cool shot of air comes from the tip - making the sensation quite comfortable. There is no need for numbing or ice with this system.

Who it's for: anyone who is tired of shaving or perhaps those with ingrown hairs or unsightly bumps from waxing. The heat from the top of the laser zaps bacteria trapped inside the skin reducing the occurance of ingrown hairs and bumps.

How many treatments and when? It varies by patient, but for the most part, you can expect at least 4-6 treatments spread out over 4-6 week increments. It's important to treat the follicle at each stage of hair growth. Once the growth is reduced - you will only need touch ups from time to time.

Call us today to learn more about having smoother, hair-free skin!

Top Three Foods For Skin That Glows

Everyone wants an easy way to maintain a youthful glow. Billions of dollars are spent on cosmetic treatments, cosmetics and makeup, medical wrinkle creams and such - when there are some daily things we can and should be doing that will contribute greatly to radiant skin. Of course, the first thing we should be doing - is drinking a lot of water. But you already knew that! What could you be EATING that will specifically support great skin as a part of your skin care?

There are tons of articles out there on dermatologists' top tips to healthy skin. We've scoured the web and found three that are so reasonable, you could include them several times a week in your diet and enjoy every minute of it.

Fab Food Number 1: Viva la Guacamole! Avocados are the creamy, green fruit used in your favorite dip at your local Mexican food restaurant. Avocados are packed with those necessary essential oils and B-complex vitamins, as well as Niacin (vitamin B3). These B-complex vitamins and essential oils truly nourish the skin, and the Niacin acts as a great anti-inflammatory.

Fab Food Number 2: Snack on some almonds! Almonds contain a whopping 150% of daily vitamin E - which is a proven rich oil that is known to moisturize skin. Vitamin E has been used for years as a rich moisturizer and antioxidant.

Fab Food Number 3: Trade the fries for a baked potato!Copper is a huge benefit to youthful skin as it produces elastin fibers when it's combined with vitamin C and zinc (you ARE taking a multi, right?) and that keeps your skin supple and taut and helps support the healing process of your skin. One baked potato provides 75% of your daily copper requirement.

CLEARLIGHT™ Acne Photoclearing™ Acne Treatment In Carrollton Texas

Turn on the LIGHT! The high-intensity blue-violet light of the the ClearLight™ Photoclearing system is a well-researched and on-invasive treatment to treat moderate and inflammatory acne.  While there is no 'cure' for acne, the ClearLight™ system can effectively eliminate the bacteria that causes acne, thus clearing the skin for many who are effected by the embarrassing and painful bumps and boils that are cystic acne.

This FDA-Approved treatment is fairly quick (around a half hour) and there is no pain or downtime. It's a drug-free alternative to other topical and oral acne treatments. This is key; because it's said that 40% of bacteria that causes acne is resistant to oral antibiotics. The acne treatment itself is often thought of as relaxing, as you sit and listen to music under the therapeutic light. It's suitable for all areas of the body - including the face, back, neck and chest. ClearLight™ is recommended in a series of several treatments - 8-10 over 4-5 weeks - to achieve optimal results.

A Cure For Razor Burn, Bumps and Ingrown Hairs

If we haven't yet given you enough evidence that laser hair removal is FAR superior to waxing or shaving,, then you might still be experiencing ingrown hairs and razor burn bumps. Of course, the heat from the laser during a laser hair removal treatment kills the bacteria that gathers under the skin and in the follicles preventing this bothersome side effect. But if you're still shaving and waxing and getting these rascally razor rashes, and you aren't ready to zap them with the laser - we have some a product you need to know about. It's called Tend Skin® solution, and it is a great topical treatment for these painful bumps and ingrown hairs.

Of course, the guys get a hall pass because we do not do laser hair reduction on the face typically.  (although it has been done, every situation is case by case and tailored to suit your skincare needs) But - anywhere you shave - there is opportunity for razor bumps and razor burn. This itchy situation occurs when the growing facial hairs either are pulled, curl over and under and back into the follicle, (backwards) resulting in a bump. And since there's usually some bacteria residing on the skin, these can easily become inflamed and infected. Of course, if the bumps aren't from shaving - then they are probably ingrown. (on their own) Ingrown hairs occur when hair has been shaved, waxed or removed - and it's growing back in, or trying - and fails to make it out of the skin surface.  The hairs curl inside the follicles back under itself, and under the skin creating a similar spot, and possible inflamed or infected bump.

Tend Skin® can be used before shaving, waxing or even before laser hair removal, because it acts as an antiseptic and 'bump preventative' if you will.  At Fit and Beautiful Medical Spa, we're always looking for ways to help you be your most fit and beautiful, as well as resolve skincare issues along the way.  Ready to try Tend Skin® Solution? Give us a call or stop by for a bottle today.

Chemical Peels For Clear Glowing Skin

Chemical peels are popular for a number of reasons, but primarily because they are quick, performed in-office, and offer great results for fresh, glowing skin. The treatment is a process of applying an acid solution directly to your skin, removing damaged outer layers of skin. It removes the damaged skin by effectively damaging the skin cells it wants to remove. These tiny injuries to the skin cells stimulate the body's healing process to grow new skin, thus beginning the cycle of skin renewal.

It can be done on the face, neck, hands, back - or anywhere that you'd like to enhance and smooth the skin, but it's mostly done on the face. It's a great preventative AND treatment for acne, fine lines and wrinkles as well as some minor pigmentation issues.

There are several types of chemical peels, and we try to fit the right peel to the patient. The standard peels are done with direct acid solutions of either lactic acid, glycolic acid, or salicylic acid. Of these three, the salicylic is usually the one we recommend for acne-pron patients. All three are good for general rejuvenation and to exfoliate the top layers of skin.

We also offer custom peels by SkinMedica, such as the Illuminize, Vitalize, and Rejuvenize Peel. These are custom mixtures, acid solutions containing several ingredients.

Vitalize Peel helps fight the effects of time, sun damage, and environmental assaults. This powerful yet non-damaging peel can take years off aging skin. There is a peel for all skin types, and these designer skin peels address a number of skin conditions from pigmentation, adult acne, wrinkles, and more.

The SkinMedica peels are quite powerful; as are other types of acids in more standard chemical peels. Therefore, you always want a physician or certified/licensed esthetician to perform this procedure.

From SkinMedica.com: Chemical peels are divided into several categories based on their degree of intensity. The stronger the acids used in a peel, the more injury to the skin occurs. Though they are capable of producing the most skin rejuvenation, deep peels necessitate longer recovery periods and carry a greater risk of complications.

Contact us today to learn more about chemical peels and find out which one is best for you!

Relax and Heal With Carrollton Tx Massage Therapy

Fit and Beautiful Medical Spa is pleased to bring massage therapy to our Carrollton medical spa. Since opening, we've been all about helping our patients be their most beautiful, healthy self through the latest advancements in cosmetic and wellness therapies. It follows naturally that we feel massage would be a great service to provide our patients - in our new, relaxing and spa-like medical facility.  In fact, many of you have asked for it - so get ready - because this new treatment is on it's way.

For centuries massage has been used to cure a number of ailments. This ancient art of healing is in fact, a standard part of the lifestyle and an accredited area of medicine in many countries. Massage can help you feel better in a number of ways. Firstly, helps improve circulation - which is a key factor in a number of systems in the body. Good circulation equals precious oxygen to the tissues of the body - helping with muscular elasticity, flexibility, and healing of injuries to soft tissue. The same concept of oxygenation supports headache relief and helps avoid depression as well.  These benefits have been said to also support a good night's rest, and improve blood pressure. The effect on the lymphatic system is great as well - supporting lymphatic drainage and metabolic elimination.

If you could do one thing for your body, on a regular basis - to feed the muscles and tissues life-giving oxygen and health they need to be healthy - it would be massage.

We are excited to bring this service to you, our patient - to help you be your most healthy.

Be well!

Now Offerig Laser Nail Fungus Treatment In Carrollton

Is there a fungus among us? A nail fungus, that is. If so - then turn up the heat and zap them away with laser nail fungus treatments at Fit and Beautiful Medical Spa in Carrollton, Texas.

A toenail fungus infection or fingernail fungus infection can occur to anyone of any age. Of course, toenail fungus is more common, since the foot is in the shoe; a warm, moist environment for the fungus to flourish. And, t
oenail Fungus infection is the most common disease of the toenails.

Laser toenail fungus removal is the safest, fastest, most effective way to treat toenail fungus. Laser therapies for toenail fungus are shown to have a <85% effectiveness rating. Certainly, there are oral medicines to treat toenail fungus, but these have been shown to have side effects and even possible risk of specific effect to the liver.  With the odds on your side, and little to no discomfort during treatment, Laser therapies make a great option for these irritating conditions.

At Fit and Beautiful Medical Spa, we use the state of the art Candela GentleYag laser to treat nail fungus.

What to expect: The treatment itself is virtually painless, and it kills the fungal infections in the nail. It's non-invasive, and doesn't require medication. This means, no side effects or health risks. After laser nail fungus removal, it may take time for your old discolored nail to grow out and a new nail to begin forming.  Laser treatment requires no downtime - you can resume normal activities immediately following treatment. Your healthy new nail will form 3-6 months post-treatment - and will become apparent as the old, damaged nail grows out and away from the nailbed.

More than one treatment will likely be necessary. We typically advise at least three treatments spaced a month apart.

Exfoliate Your Skin Safely and Quickly With Microdermabrasion

At our Carrollton Medical Spa, we offer Diamond-Tip Microdermabrasion which is a great way to maintain glowing skin.

What is microdermabrasion?
It's a non-invasive but effective treatment performed with a special machine, designed to remove the top most layer of skin through exfoliation. We recommend it often to improve texture and tone, and help prevent acne breakouts; and microdermabrasion is safe enough to be done a few times a month.

How does it work? The tip of the wand uses natural diamond chips to gently exfoliate away dead skin cells. At the same time, the skin cells are being 'vacuumed' into the piece, leaving nothing but supple and vibrant skin behind.  This exfoliation paves the way for new skin cells to grow.

What are the benefits? Not only does the process leave your skin clean and feeling and looking great, it also stimulates circulation in the facial areas, allowing for a firmer appearance and a healthy glow. Microdermabrasion can be performed on the face, neck, chest, hands, back, and about anywhere you want to have smoother, healthier skin and is recommended to be done regularly as a part of your skincare regimen.

How much is it, and how often should I get it done? We recommend microdermabrasion at least once a month, and even twice a month as a part of a healthy skin care regimen. It can be used alone, or in conjunction with other treatments, such as chemical peels and other services. A microdermabrasion should always be performed by a licensed esthetician.

At Fit and Beautiful Medical Spa, we offer a monthly microdermabrasion membership where you can receive a regular medical microdermabrasion in our spa-like atmosphere once a month. It's such an affordable way to receive this treatment. And, as a member, you'll receive exclusive discounts and offers on other treatments and products  every month. Call us to learn more!

Our GentleMax Pro therapy provides efficient and effective treatments for Laser Hair Removal, Laser Skin Tightening, Laser Vein Reduction, and general Laser Skin Rejuvenation - quickly, and painlessly.

Certainly laser therapies can often be uncomfortable, due to the heat of the beam penetrating the skin.  Our laser is a bit different, in that it blows a blast of cool air at the exact same moment it is doing it's job to rejuvenate the skin or blast away hair follicles.

The end result - smoother, more youthful skin and no pain very little discomfort.

This week's Feature: Laser Skin Tightening: a non – surgical procedure that uses a laser to tighten skin by heating the collagen beneath the skin’s surface which stimulates new collagen growth. We generally suggest a series of 3-6 treatments over several weeks for optimal results. Call us today or stop by for a free consultation.

Resolving Razorburn And Ingrown Hairs

Tired of razor burn, ingrown hairs and unsightly and uncomfortable bumps as a result of shaving and waxing?  Of course, we love the idea of laser hair removal as a great solution for these bumps. As you might know, the heat from the laser not only zaps the hair from the follicle, but it also sizzles away bacteria that causes ingrown hairs and bumps, reducing their chances of survival.

And typically, we don't do a lot of laser treatments for hair on the face.  So whereas treating the bikini area with laser hair reduction is an easy, great solution to lose these bumps and razor burn - guys are often out of luck when it comes to certain areas of the face.  And there will always be the straggling bump or ingrown hair to contend with. That's when an in-home treatment plan comes in handy.  And yes, guys need good skincare too. Stay tuned to our blog for men's skin care tips and treatments coming in the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, an at-home skin care regimen for guys should include Tend Skin Solution. TEND SKIN SOLUTION is a great product for at-home skincare to soothe ingrown hairs and razorburn. It works great after shaving (or waxing) when your follicles are a bit irritated from the rude removal or extraction of the hairs that lived there. It's easy to use: apply with a cotton ball after shaving or waxing.

Contact our office to purchase Tend Skin Solution or for a free skincare consultation to tailor a program that's perfect for YOU!
